Salary to Hourly Calculator 2026
Convert annual gross pay to hourly pay, with separate paid-time and working-time estimates.
Annual pay is the total for the modeled year, including paid leave.
Schedule, time off and taxes
Time off includes paid vacation and paid holidays expressed as weeks of your schedule. Unpaid weeks are excluded from paid weeks.
Paid hours and worked hours are different
At $75,000 with 40 hours and 52 paid weeks, the paid-hour equivalent is $36.06. Five weeks of paid time off leave that figure unchanged, but reduce actual work to 1,880 hours, making the value per worked hour $39.89. Neither calculation creates extra pay.
- Paid-hour equivalent
- Annual gross pay / (weekly hours x paid weeks)
- Worked-hour value
- Annual gross pay / (weekly hours x (paid weeks - paid time off))
- Work and commute value
- Annual gross pay / ((weekly hours + weekly commute hours) x working weeks)
These comparisons assume a consistent weekly schedule. Calendar-month averages spread total pay across 12 months, even if you work only part of the year. Equal-payment estimates use the payment count separately; an actual payroll calendar may differ.

Payroll and tax limits
The 2,080-hour shortcut is a comparison convention. OPM uses a 2,087-hour divisor for certain federal employees. This calculator does not determine your contractual payroll rate.
The Department of Labor explains the overtime regular rate, which uses applicable workweek earnings and hours. Annual pay divided by 2,080 is not sufficient to determine overtime entitlements.
IRS income-tax brackets apply progressively. The top bracket is not the average tax rate on total pay. For a more detailed estimate, see the Net Pay Calculator.
Benefits, employer contributions, commute expenses and contractor costs require separate inputs when comparing offers. See the contract versus full-time comparison and freelance rate calculator; their estimates are not guarantees of equivalent compensation.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert annual salary to hourly pay?
Divide the total annual gross pay by weekly hours multiplied by paid weeks. With 40 hours and 52 paid weeks, the divisor is 2,080. For example, $75,000 / 2,080 is about $36.06 per paid hour.
Should paid time off reduce my hourly pay?
No. Paid time off is already included in annual gross pay. It reduces hours actually worked, not the modeled paid hours. At $75,000, 40 hours per week and 52 paid weeks, five weeks of paid leave leave the paid-hour equivalent at $36.06 while the value per worked hour becomes $39.89.
What if I work for only part of the year?
Use the gross pay actually expected for that year and the corresponding paid weeks. A $60,000 full-year offer that pays $30,000 across 26 weeks is entered as $30,000 and 26 paid weeks. Do not enter the full-year offer as though you received all of it. Calendar-month averages still divide the actual annual total by 12.
What does the tax assumption mean?
The assumed average tax rate is the share of total gross pay modeled as tax, not the highest marginal bracket. The estimate does not calculate tax liability, credits, benefits, pension contributions, insurance deductions, or payroll withholding.
Why might my payslip use a different hourly rate?
This is a planning conversion, not a payroll rule. Employers may use different pay-period calendars or contract rules. Certain federal employees use an OPM divisor of 2,087 hours. Overtime regular-rate calculations also follow separate rules and can include additional compensation.
What is $100,000 a year hourly?
$100,000 divided by 2,080 is about $48.08 per paid hour. The calendar-month average is $8,333.33; dividing into 26 equal payments gives $3,846.15 before taxes and deductions.
